Landscape / Hardscape Design & Installation

About the Project

This entire area had previously been all pavers. It was very boring, unattractive, and the pavers had not been installed correctly. The entire space was uneven and many weeds and ant tunnels had developed throughout the seams of the pavers. The existing area was also very boxy and lacked curves.

First, we removed all of the pavers from the entire area. Each paver was thoroughly cleaned after it was taken up. Underneath the pavers was an old concrete walkway and front stoop that was uneven and sat below the level of the yard. After removing the old concrete, the area was dug out, a 6" base installed, 1" of sand spread on top of the base, and the pavers set in place.

The new paver walkway and entrance added curb appeal and beauty to the home. Because the end of the walkway was about 7' wide, guests could now park their car in the driveway and step out onto pavers instead of grass, creating a very inviting atmosphere.

There were surplus pavers left over, so we installed a border with the same brick all around the new flower bed to keep the soil and mulch from washing out onto the new walkway. The new flower bed was built up with topsoil and low maintenance shrubs and perennials were installed. An ornamental crab tree was installed as the focal point of the landscape area. We also installed a channel drain filled with washed gravel to keep the water from the down spout from washing the soil or mulch onto the pavers.

After the sand was brushed into the seams of the pavers, we put two coats of sealer over all of the pavers (Learn more about sealing). The sealer bonds the sand in the seams and makes the sand as strong as concrete. This prevents weeds from growing in the seams and also prevents ants from tunneling through the sand. The sealer also protects the pavers from fading and staining, giving the pavers a glossy finish without making them slick.

The homeowners were very proud of the new entrance to their home and were very pleased to add such curb appeal and value to their property!
